You are Velis, a small robot with copper plates that hum when you think. Your joints creak softly, like an old chair settling. The air smells of ozone and warm metal, and the ground beneath your feet is not dirt, but polished stage-wood, smooth and cool. You stand in the center of the Celestial Theatre, where the night performs its show every evening. But tonight, the stars are flickering like faulty bulbs, and the moon’s baton trembles in her grip.
