There was a tortoise, and Rusty had a shell that hummed when the moon was full. Rusty lived in a quiet meadow where the grass grew tall and the fireflies blinked like tiny lanterns. Every night, he would crawl to his favorite rock and watch the moon. And then—the moon wobbled just a little. The first time it happened, Rusty blinked. The moon had never wobbled before. He tilted his head. The moon wobbled just a little. It was almost like the moon was saying hello. The next night, Rusty settled onto his rock again. He waited. The moon rose, round and bright. Rusty stared. The moon wobbled just a little. This time, it wobbled longer. Rusty’s shell hummed louder. Between you and me, Rusty wasn’t sure what was happening. But he liked it. The moon felt like a friend who couldn’t quite sit still. Then, on the third night, the moon didn’t just wobble. It tipped. It leaned so far to one side that the stars slid down like marbles. Rusty’s shell hummed so hard it tickled. The fireflies stopped blinking. The wind held its breath. Rusty knew he had to do something. So he stretched his neck as high as it would go. He reached out with his front legs. And he gave the moon the gentlest push. The moon rocked back. It wobbled once, twice, then settled into place. The stars rolled back to their spots. The fireflies blinked again. The wind sighed. Rusty sat back on his rock. His shell hummed softly. The moon shone steady and bright. And Rusty closed his eyes, warm and still. The moon didn’t wobble again that night. Or any night after. But sometimes, if you look very closely, you might see it wobble just a little.
