She feels every needle like it’s part of her heart
Did you know that some trees hold on tight when the wind comes? High up on the mountain, the air smelled like cold rocks and pine. A little pine tree stood there, small but strong. Her needles were green and sharp, and she loved every single one.
The wind blew one afternoon. It tugged at the pine’s branches. "Let go!" the wind whispered. "It’s time." The pine shook her head. "NO!" she said. "These are MINE." The wind blew harder. It ruffled her needles like a dog shaking its fur. The pine STOMPED her roots into the ground. "NOT fair!"
The sky turned pink. The wind grew louder, swirling leaves around her. A few needles trembled. Then—plip—they fell. The pine gasped. "STOP!" But the wind didn’t listen. It pushed and pulled, and more needles let go. The pine felt her branches wobble. She was so ANGRY.
