One day, Phoenix said to the mountain wind — "What if my ember goes out before morning?" The wind only sighed, cold and sharp. The ember trembled in his chest. His feathers prickled. Can you guess what he saw next? A tiny cricket, no bigger than a pebble, sat on a rock. Its wings glowed like a fallen star. "Why are you awake?" the cricket asked. Phoenix hunched his wings. The ember trembled in his chest. "I’m afraid of the dark." The cricket tilted its head. "The dark is just waiting for a light to find it." Phoenix blinked. "But what if my light isn’t bright enough?" The cricket hopped closer. "Between you and me..." it whispered, "even a spark can make the night feel small." Phoenix watched the cricket’s glow dance. He took a deep breath. The ember trembled in his chest. Then—it pulsed. Warm. Steady. The cricket smiled. "See?" Phoenix stretched his wings. The dark didn’t feel so big anymore. The wind still blew. The ember still glowed. And Phoenix found his answer.
