Story Preview

The ocean was very dark at the bottom. Something moved in the sand, slow and careful. Maris the lobster stretched her claws, feeling the weight of her shell. It had been itching for days. Not like a scratch, but like a question.

She had watched the older lobsters molt before. They would hide in the rocks, their shells splitting like old paper bags. Then they would come out soft and new, their bodies pale and shimmering under the moonlight. Maris wondered if she would glow too. The thought made her claws tremble.

The water was cool against her shell. It carried the sound of distant waves, like a lullaby from far away. Above her, the moon hung in the sky, round and bright. It pulled at the water, pulling at her too, like a gentle hand.
