Then he saw it—a tiny turtle, its shell cracked like a dry leaf. It didn’t move. Just blinked up at him. Leo picked it up. It was warm. He put it in his pocket. The weight felt different now. Not gone. Just... softer. He walked home. The turtle peeked out. The river kept moving, but Leo stayed. The sun dipped low. The air smelled like rain. Leo didn’t notice.
