Long ago, before kites knew how to fly without strings... Kite was bright red. Her tail fluttered like a ribbon. Every morning, the child ran in the field. Kite’s string tugged tight. The sky hummed when she flew. Shhh... listen... can you hear the wind? One day, the string snapped. Kite wobbled. The sky felt too big. She drifted. No tug. No child. Just empty air. Alone. Then—a whisper. A soft breeze curled around her. The sky hummed when she flew. The breeze stayed. Not tight. Not loose. Just there. Kite floated lower. The child’s hands reached up. The sky hummed when she flew. The string was gone. But the breeze held her close. And that was enough. The child smiled. Kite rested in the grass. Soft. Still. Safe. And ever since then, kites remember the sound of the sky humming.
