And another. Dot crawled closer. The lights were fireflies! Their glow pulsed like breathing. The dark pressed close, but now it wasn’t empty. It was full of little sparks. One firefly landed near her. "Why do you hide?" it asked. Dot’s light dimmed. "I’m too small," she whispered. The firefly laughed. "So are we. But together? We light up the whole river."
