Long ago, before fireflies knew how to glow... There was a small lantern named Chai. She hung from a hook in a quiet village, watching the world grow dark each evening. The people would light her wick, and her glass sides would warm with golden light. But outside, beyond the village, the fireflies flew in the dark. They were tiny, silent, and invisible. No one could see them dance. One night, Chai felt a tug in her heart. She wanted the fireflies to be seen. So she asked the wind to unhook her from the wall. The wind lifted her gently, and Chai floated into the night. She drifted over fields and streams, her light flickering like a tiny sun. The fireflies noticed her. They fluttered close, their wings brushing her glass. No one could see them dance. Chai wished they could glow like she did. Then, something magical happened. The fireflies began to shimmer. One by one, their bellies lit up—soft, golden, like little lanterns in the dark. Chai’s light had touched them. Can you guess what happened next? The fireflies danced in the air, their glow weaving patterns like stars come to earth. Chai watched, her heart full. No one could see them dance. But now, everyone could. Ever since that night, Chai returned to her hook in the village. But sometimes, when the wind blows just right, she floats into the dark again. And if you look closely, you’ll see her light mingling with the fireflies. The night is quieter now. The fireflies glow softly. Chai’s light flickers. The wind hums. The stars blink. The world is still. And ever since then, fireflies glow when the lanterns do.
